Hiking grades


ACTIVITY DESCRIPTIONS AND HIKING GRADE DEFINITIONS:

The following hiking grades are meant to help participants better understand the hiking difficulty of any Anton Hill Adventures' trip. Hiking times are dedicated hiking times and may include rest, lunch and photo stops. The prevailing weather and the time of a year are also factors that affect the challenge of the hike.


      EASY (I) - A hike of 3 to 4 hours and 6 to 10 kilometers or less on generally gentle terrain with elevation gains or losses of 50 to 200 meter.

      MODERATE (II) - A hike of 4 to 5 hours and 7 to 12 kilometers on varied terrain with elevation gains and losses of 100 to 400 meter.

      STRENUOUS (III) - A hike of 5 to 7 hours and 10 to 20 kilometers (6-13miles) on varied terrain with consistent ascents and descents of 2 to 3 hours or more with elevation gains and losses of 100 to 600 meter. There may be sections that include steep uphill and downhill's including scree and boulders and may also include short distances of exposure.

      STRENUOUS  PLUS (IV) - A hike of 6 to 9 hours and 12 to 25 kilometers partly on rocky, challenging terrain with consistent steep ascents and descents of 2 to 3 or more hours with elevation gains of 100 to 1000 meter. The terrain may also include scree, boulders, snow fields or a combination of all. There also may be several sections of extensive exposure.

      EXTREME (V) - A hike over 8 hours and over 20 kilometers in a very challenging terrain with consistent steep ascents and descents of 3 or more hours with elevation gains of 100 to 1000 meter or over. The terrain includes scree, boulders, snow fields or a combination of all. There also may be several sections of extensive exposure.
